Sometimes I Think About Dying review

Posted : 6 months, 1 week ago on 4 November 2023 09:15 (A review of Sometimes I Think About Dying)

I saw four movies during the Filmekimi 2023 lineup and I can easily say this one was my favorite among those—and this has nothing to do with me enjoying Daisy Ridley's performance. The movie makes you feel lonely but in the best kind of way, it's a loneliness which is accepted and understood by masses.

There are times where you can tell that this was clearly made out of a short film's premise but I can't say the slow pace bored me. The humor was so well implemented and the cast used every little moment perfectly. I really hope I can get to see this again sometime soon purely for the scene which leads to the finale.

Swallow review

Posted : 4 years ago on 17 April 2020 11:52 (A review of Swallow)

I sadly missed the chance to watch Swallow on the theatre when it hit a film festival in İstanbul while I was there, but I've been keeping an eye on this movie since it wrapped and I talked non-stop about how much I wanted to be able to see it. Now that I finally saw it on VOD, I heard there is a possibility for it to re-run in cinemas in Turkey soon and I will certainly go see it again. This film made me sick, I hated every scene while it rolled but at the same time I fell in love with it. So well acted, extremely pretty to look at. Carlo Mirabella-Davis is surely a director to watch out for. I will follow his future work now that I'm certain they will be magnificent if they can live up to Swallow. Some scenes I wanted to look away from, and there wasn't any gore in this - no such thing as too horror genre of it but you can feel the anxiety eating you from the inside during all of the film. And dare I say I never felt so hypnotized by an end credits roll? It was saddening, it was beautiful. I love this film. It might not be for everyone, but it sure was for me.
